Trace 2

“Trace” — which depicts the texture of time vanishing before one’s eyes, the lingering afterglow of memories left at one’s fingertips, and the subtle boundary where light and shadow intersect — is, for me, an attempt to bring the past into the present: to reveal that a disappeared moment still exists here and now.

On the canvas, I pile up materials, scrape them away, and erase. The layers left behind overlap one another, each holding the traces of what came before, like geological strata of memory. This act of repetition is a meditative process, and at the same time, a practice of exploring the traces left within myself.

“Trace” is not simply a painting of remembered forms. It is a drawing that deals with the traces of existence — a visual language that unfolds at the boundary between the material and the immaterial, light and darkness, reality and memory. Those traces carry meaning not in their finished form, but in the process itself; and within those subtle layers, one comes face to face with their own memories and time.

To me, Trace is proof of disappearance. And yet, simultaneously, it is a record of existence. Beginning from what has vanished, within the faint vibration of light that still remains — that energy — I look once more upon the breath of the world, and upon my own being.

눈앞에 사라져버린 시간의 결, 손 끝에 남은 기억의 잔광, 그리고 빛과 그림자가 교차하 는 그 미묘한 경계를 그린“Trace”는 나에게 있어 ‘지나간 것의 현재화’, 즉 사라진 순간이 여전히 지금 여기에 존재함을 드러내는 시도이다.
캔버스 위에서 나는 재료를 쌓고, 긁고, 지운다. 남겨진 층위들은 기억의 지층처럼 서로의 흔적을 품은 채 겹 쳐진다. 그 반복 행위는 하나의 명상적 과정이며, 동시 에 나 자신에게 남겨진 흔적을 탐구하는 수행이다.
“Trace”는 단순히 형상의 기억을 그리는 그림이 아니 다. 그것은 ‘존재의 흔적’을 다루는 드로잉이며, 물질과 비물질, 빛과 어둠, 현실과 기억 사이의 경계에서 이루 어지는 시각적 언어다. 그 흔적들은 완성된 형태보다 과정 그 자체로 의미를 갖고, 그 미묘한 층위 속에서 자신의 기억과 시간을 마주하게 된다. 나에게 ‘Trace’는 사라짐의 증명이다. 그러나 동시에 존재의 기록이기도 하다. 사라진 것에서부터 시작해 여전히 남아 있는 에너지-그 빛의 미세한 진동 안에 서 나는 세계의 숨결을, 그리고 나 자신의 존재를 다시 돌아본다.
